BANYAKITARA DRAMA CLUB

Brief Background

This association started in 1994 in Kinyamasika seminary by seminarians from Mbarara Archdiocese. Given the fact that apart from the Rutooro language and culture, there is a uniting language of the ‘Runyakitara’ it became a bond of unity among the member dioceses and the concerned students. This association is mainly comprised of students from Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province and those who are well conversant with Runyakitara language and culture. The students come together and share experience especially in regard to their culture and general seminary formation. Later, the drama club was officially launched.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE BANYAKITARA DRAMA CLUB

  1. The club aims at bringing to perfection the Banyakitara as a people and culture
  2. To help students to have a strong spirit of staying together enjoying their culture and background
  3. Evangelizing the neighboring community through the plays and drama in particular
  4. Keeping the members focused on culture and language
  5. Help the individual members entertain the community and learn public speaking

ADDENDUM

This association has always left room open to all those who would like to come learn more about the Banyakitara culture and Runyakitara language. So other members of the community interact with the association’s members and by so doing, they perfect their knowledge of Runyakitara. Though the educative plays in the local language (Rutooro) to the school and parish communities; the association has been a channel of formation and information to different parishioners, pupils, and students. The association gets some time to have Holy mass. A group (Banyakitara) and Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province takes the lead.
