BEING IN THE SEMINARY

Our purpose in the Seminary is to help seminarians to know and cultivate the personality of Jesus Christ. Seminarians are helped to appreciate one whom they are following in this formation and thereby grow in Spirituality. Seminarians are helped to understand the reality of taking Jesus Christ as a chief model and the chief shepherd and source of Christian Priesthood. This starts already here in the seminary and continues to grow as priests. It is Christ himself who instituted the priesthood and it is commemorated in Himself. This commemoration is done in the spirit of service and in unity with the sacrament of the Eucharist. As for us here, this is guaranteed through the different spiritual exercises, for instance; in the daily Mass, during retreats, spiritual talks, individual spiritual direction, personal and community prayers, among others.

Furthermore, given the rapid changes in the world and the different adjustments in the church, our seminarians are helped through spiritual theology to remain relevant in such environment of tensions, complexities and ambiguities. This for instance is done in line with the teaching of Pope Paul VI in his Encyclical Ecclesiam Suam of August 6, 1964. Therein, the Holy Father points out the changes in the world and calls upon priests to be mindful of their identity and mission. In the same vein, in helping our seminarians be conscious of their identity and mission, we always help them to grow in holiness and in cultivating Gospel values.

Lastly, we learn to count every day as a wonder for us. Every day is God’s gift for us here and we indeed appreciate the theology of everydayness. We believe that God’s hand is every day on us.
