GERMAN CLUB

Brief Background

This comprises of a group of seminarians who wish to learn and perfect the German Language. Right from the early beginnings (1993) of our seminary, the seminarians picked an interest and started learning the language. At first the students were divided into two groups: Stuff I and Stuff II, but currently, it is just one group learning the German language and Culture. Members of this club believe that the best way to master this language well is through mutual assistance. That is why members make individual efforts to learn things on their own and then share with others.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CLUB

There are several reasons (aims/objectives) as to why a student at St Paul’s learns German:

  • Due to the aspect of globalization, there is an urgent need to communicate with the German-speaking person in the different countries all over the world.
  • It is a gateway to other languages which belong to the Germanic Family of Languages.
  • Experts have proved it that, this is one way to improve one’s English grammar.
  • When sent for further studies, a student will find it easy to master the language especially if sent in one of the German-speaking countries.
  • Makes it easy for a student to assess the classical writings of the Theologians who have written in German. He can get the originally intended meaning of such authors.

LEADERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP

The club has got a chaplain (Fr. In charge) one who is well conversant with the language. The Chairman who is assisted by the Vice Chairman and one in charge Liturgy comprises the student leadership of this club.
