SELF-RELIANCE ASSOCIATION

Brief Background

From the available sources, it is believed that self-reliance as a club begun at the time the seminary started in 1992. The idea of beginning this club was the brain-child of the class of pioneers. It was seminarian Mujuni Cyril (Mbarara Archdiocese) who forwarded the idea to the staff on behalf of the class and the staff immediately supported it by giving it a go ahead. Self-reliance is more of a club of voluntary workers at St. Paul’s National Major Seminary. It mainly aims at serving the community through manual labor. The members concentrate on providing the food supplements to the feeding of the community. They grow mainly vegetables and tropical fruits.

AIMS OF SELF-RELIANCE

The aim of this club is to serve the community through cultivating a variety of vegetables and other food crops in view of improving the diet of both students and staff but above all, to minimise (reduce) the costs which would be incurred by the seminary on such food stuffs.

To provide an avenue of sharing and learning skills in regard to modern gardening as seminarians are being prepared for ministry later in the parishes.
