PIONEER TOTAL ABSTINENCE ASSOCIATION (PTAA)

This movement was founded in 1898 by James Cullen in response to widespread alcoholism among Irish Catholics. In the 20th century, the term pioneer became synonymous with tee-totalism among Irish Catholics. In 1923, Eoin O’duffy as a commissioner of the grada Siochana (civic guard) encouraged members to join PTAA and allowed Gardai to wear the pioneer pin on their uniforms

Apparently, there are rallies and enrolments that take place periodically at and outside Kinyamasika seminary.

The major aim of this movement is Christ-centered. To help our brothers realize the need to be moderate and even abstain from alcohol abuse. Members go to neighboring institutions and interact with students in regard to the issue which pertain alcohol abuse. They also converge to celebrate the day of sobriety.
